- European Southern Observatory (ESO) Celebrates Project Conclusion with PI
- 2,500 PI Hybrid Actuators Valued at €15.9 Million Support ESO Research Project
Humans are fascinated by space. The very question of whether we are alone in the universe is a topic of ongoing debate among researchers and in society. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) aims to answer questions like these with its Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), the world's largest ground-based telescope. This innovative research project is supported by PI, which supplied ESO with 2,500 custom-designed hybrid actuators valued at €15.9 million. The nanopositioners, specifically engineered for the project, meet unprecedented demands: Extreme environmental conditions, high gravitational stresses, and long-term reliability were challenges that PI successfully overcame thanks to its many years of research experience and development know-how. The project, which kicked off in 2017, came to a successful conclusion with the final delivery.
